Devising Experience

“I have always had a fond relationship with devising pieces of theatre. Before I even knew that theatre was my path in life, I loved creating plays and mini musicals with my friends.”

– Demi DiCarlo

Deviser

Demi has been devising pieces of theatre since she and her middle school best friend used to drag their families to one-night only performances they’d created. She loves to learn and try new ways to create unique theatre.

we’re making this thing about street harassment and now you’re watching it
(Fall 2019)
For her final project in her Directing II class, Demi devised and directed an original 15 minute piece about street harassment (otherwise known as catcalling). Using personal experience from the actors and other community members, copious research, and a lot of collaboration, the piece was an attempt to not only show how catcalling affects women on a nearly daily basis, but the role men play in it and why they do it.

(Fall 2019-Spring 2020)
Unfortunately this project was cancelled due to COVID-19 before it was given a name. Demi facilitated a student devised project with the chosen topic of social media. The ensemble was in the midst of trying out various generating techniques before the university closed for the semester. These techniques included movement based generation, Frantic Assembly’s Moment Work, and Augusto Boal’s Forum Theatre.
